Because of their mutual love of adventure, Jake and Emma became best friends. They had grown up in a little hamlet close to the enigmatic Misty Mountain and had heard many stories of a treasure buried among its misty peaks: gold, gems, and artefacts that the ancient inhabitants had concealed. However, nobody had ever located it, and several people had searched but failed. It was said that the mountain had an independent consciousness and would set up traps and illusions for anybody courageous (or stupid) enough to pursue its riches.
In his attic, amid his grandfather’s possessions, Jake discovered an old map one summer day. To their surprise, it seemed to take them right to the rumored riches! With the map, a compass, and a bag of snacks in hand, they embarked on the adventure without hesitation as excitement soared.
Narrow routes and steep hills made the ascent more difficult than they had expected. It was hard to see more than a few feet ahead because of the mist that clung to the mountain like a veil. They came over a number of perplexing riddles and traps along the road, including odd marks on the rocks and enigmatic inscriptions etched into trees. The stakes increased as the mountain seemed intent on diverting them off their path, yet each puzzle they answered moved them one step closer to the riches.
They eventually arrived to a secret cave at the top of the mountain, just as the sun was about to set, after hours of hiking. They found a chest within that contained diamonds, old currencies, and an exquisitely crafted artefact that exuded an odd energy. They were about to go, however, when they heard footfall coming from further within the cave. The same tale had drawn another treasure hunter, who had been following them the whole time, waiting for the ideal opportunity to attack.
After a difficult confrontation, Jake and Emma were able to flee with the riches and their lives, promising to protect Misty Mountain’s secret for future generations.
Moral:
Perseverance and friendship can overcome any obstacle.
