The staff at “Synergy Solutions Inc.,” a business more renowned for its never-ending meetings than for its real work, was always drowning in deadlines. Under the direction of an excessively enthusiastic boss called Phil, the team was given unreasonable timelines for generating “innovative solutions” that seemed to become shorter with each new assignment. Phil often recited his favourite motto, “Why rest when you can excel?” and felt that any assignment could be completed “yesterday.”
An email setting a 24-hour deadline for a “groundbreaking project” was sent to the staff one day. The expectations were ridiculously high, the project scope was unclear, and there were no resources. As the time ran down, tensions increased, and the crew scrambled to produce something that would be considered “groundbreaking.”
The weary crew eventually came up with a “revolutionary” solution: an office cat video that was unrelated to the first endeavor. Unexpectedly, Phil was elevated to Senior Vice President of Urgent Ideas when higher management praised it as “the innovation of the century.” The staff was shocked, wondering whether this was the new normal or if they had just walked into a parody of business life.
Moral:
Sometimes, the absurdity of the corporate world is best handled with humor.
